Private or shared hot tub?
Many Big White buildings have a shared hot tub, and the cost of running it is part of the monthly strata fee. A private hot tub, on a deck or patio, is the owner's own cost and is allowed only in some buildings and homes.
- Shared: already inside your strata fee, so no separate budget line.
- Private: budget for water care, power, servicing and repairs.
- Before you buy: ask the strata whether bylaws, deck load limits or insurance rules apply to a private hot tub.
Owning a hot tub at altitude
- Cold, snow and ice affect covers, pumps and plumbing, so winterising and power outages matter.
- Access for delivery and servicing can be limited in winter.
- If the home sits empty for part of the year, ask about a care plan.
Common questions
The listing mentions a hot tub. Is it mine?
Not always. In some buildings the listing refers to a shared hot tub that every owner uses. Check the strata fee inclusions and the building's rules.
Does a hot tub change my insurance?
It can. Tell your broker about any hot tub on the property.
Can I add a hot tub to a condo?
That depends on the building. Ask the strata before you plan one.
